Start with the work, not the catalogue
The strongest learning design begins with the decisions, behaviours and outputs that need to improve. Only then should the organisation select topics, duration and format.
This changes the conversation from “Which course should we run?” to “What should participants be able to do differently after the intervention?”
Design for application
- Use examples and data that resemble the participants’ environment.
- Provide tools and templates that can be used immediately.
- Create practice around realistic decisions, not only concept recall.
- Ask managers to reinforce application after the workshop.
- Review evidence of use, not only satisfaction scores.
Treat learning as a capability pathway
A single workshop can create awareness and momentum. Sustained capability often requires sequenced learning, practice, reinforcement and leadership support. That is the difference between a training vendor and a capability partner.
Apply the idea
Consider where this insight appears in your current role, team or organisation. What decision, behaviour or workflow should change?
